The Brady House
Case Study
The Bradys' Dream
Mr. & Mrs. Brady brought us this rough floor plan they had
formulated, plus a list of "must haves" and needs for
the home. During the conversation, we started sketching a turret
and other architectural details to add interest to the front elevation.
These rough sketches made by Mark Lancaster during the initial meeting helped everyone begin to visualize the shape, style and basic dimensions of the house.
Designing the House
Using the information gathered at the initial meeting, we created
these concept floor plans to discuss with the client and begin
preliminary budgeting. At this point in planning, we make adjustments
in the basic layout and discuss general finishes.
At this stage, we prepared preliminary plans including 3-D computer renderings of the exterior and interior of the house. In these virtual drawings, we were able to incorporate the actual views from the client's lot, project the contours of the property and indicate the shadows for the various exposures. The 3-D drawings enable clients to visualize how various colors, finishes and lighting will look.
Building the House
These elevations and actual construction drawings were presented to the Bradys. We discussed any final details, made minor alterations and used these final specifications to determine the cost for the contract. Changes requested by the client after this stage would be documented in the form of a change order.
Living the Dream
This is the Brady home as completed. Their rough floor plan for a custom home has become a reality that meets their needs but far exceeds their original idea, thanks to the experience and innovation of Lancaster Craftsmen Builders.
